Embellish this conclusion with the fact that choices in American elections are extremely limited and you see the GOP rout of the Democrats for what it was: Strictly victory by default.
Before November 2nd I wrote a Blog likening the election to a chicken rotisserie. The System is very adept at keeping itself out the line of fire. They always manage to offer up this or that group of puppet politicians as scape goats for the sins of the System. This time Nancy Pelosi was offered up as the sacrificial stand-in for Obama. Next time John Boehner will find himself on the spit.
Early on it appeared that the original Tea Party, which developed out of the Ron Paul campaign, would develop a measure of hope. But lots of corporate money–and perhaps drug money, as well–unofficial infomercials on Fox News, and the phony opposition credentials of Sarah Palin, all served to swamp the original Tea Party and turn it aside.
As Pat Buchanan and others detailed in THE AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE, Sarah Palin was a manufactured personality. She was found and developed by lead Neocon honcho Bill Kristol himself. She didn’t write her famous speech at the Republican National Convention. She doesn’t write her best-selling books. She doesn’t even do her own thinking in that pretty little pinhead of her’s. The Neocons do it for her.
Thus the Party Line was forced on the Tea Party. This called for retrenchments in government spending without mentioning the myriads wars. No effective plan for sealing the borders or dealing with the illegals here. That would upset Big Business which is still the main underwriter for the Tea Party/GOP concern.
Meanwhile, the Democrats were fucked. Beholden to a President who at best ignored them and at worst shit on them, yet who they didn’t dare criticize because of his skin tone, they had no where to go but down.
Ordinarily, a President on the skids like Obama could expect a Primary challenge in his own party. Reagan challenged Gerald Ford in 1976, Ted Kennedy & Jerry Brown ran against Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Pat Buchanan took on George HW Bush in 1992. But the Cult of Political Correctness doesn’t allow a challenge to a black president. I can see the Race Card being readied right now.
In lieu of an effective Third Party, angry/anxious voters will look to a Republican Party which, back in power, will show itself to be the same old GOP voters have repudiated so many times in the past. Will Mitt Romney be unveiled as the Great White Hope?
In the meantime, this election will be noted as the rise of the truly sinister Eric Canto to power as House Majority Leader behind Speaker John Boehner.
The thrill ride begins.
