Mass Immigration–The American Difference

Mass immigration into the USA has had a different basis than that of the UK. In Britain, “New Labour” has gotten the blame for wishing to deliberately change the demographic make-up of the country. It seems a majority of those we would term the indigenous inhabitants of the British Isles are still often inclined to vote Conservative. So why not tweek the electorate to stay in office?

But in the USA it has been quite different. To be sure, the Democrats are benefiting. But it wasn’t their baby; unintended consequences is the term to use.

During the time period in which both legal & illegal immigration took off, Democrats were largely out of power. Of course, back in 1965, when immigration was liberalized, liberal Democrats like Hubert Humphrey and the Kennedy were the main forces backing it. But public pressure forced them to limit immigrants to 250,000 a year. And illegal immigration was minimal.

That all changed with the 1980 election of papier mache Conservative hero Ronald Reagan. He quit guarding the border in interests of cheap labor. In combination with de-industrialization on steroids, that ripped the guts out of the industrial working-class in this country. Ronnie didn’t give a shit. When his movie career was largely shot after the 1940s, virulently anti-labor General Electric put him on television and signed him as a spokesman to boot. The Jewish Mafia got him his ranch on the cheap. And so it goes.

Reagan’s successor, George Bush the Elder continued the policies. And Bush Senior increased the legal immigration to a cool million a year. Clinton had other priories and let it slide. Besides, his party would ultimately reap the political benefit. Moreover, the New Class liberals who took over the Democratic Party after the 1970s continued hosing the working-class so they needed new recruits.

The 2000 coup of the Republican Supreme Court placed Bush Junior in office. His political guru Karl Rove’s specialty–after convincing Southern Democrats to switch parties–was courting Hispanic voters for the GOP. (Corrupt ‘tax reformer’ Grover Norquist courted Arab & Muslim voter to try & counter-act the Jewish vote for the Democrats.) Needless to say, Dubya wasn’t about to change the lax immigration policies of Reagan and his father.

Enhanced security concerns after 9/11 afforded young Bush the excuse to tighten things up and slam the door on illegal aliens. He did nothing. Little more than 2 years after 9/11, 4 million more illegals entered the country.

Had the electorate in 2008 consisted of the same demographics that elected Kennedy by a whisker in 1960, McCain would have beaten Obama in a landslide.
