American Suicide

Vilfredo Pareto taught that nations die exclusively from suicide rather foreign invasions and the like. So what in the hell are we doing getting involved in a civil war in Yemen? We have a civil war of our own brewing in this country. And in a worse case scenario, up to 90% of the population could perish. Dust off your “Mad Max” DVDs to see what it might be like.

Thomas Chittum’s 1996 book, CIVIL WAR TWO, THE COMING BREAKUP OF AMERICA, could be prophetic. Yet it’s hardly ever discussed anywhere outside of Far Right circles. And they generally take home the wrong message, tending to groove on what would be a disaster.

I’ve seen one ‘left’ source touch on the civil war theme. One Mark Peranson, reviewing Lars von Trier’s movie MANDALAY in the alternative weekly CITY PAGES in January of 2006, wrote this:

“As the Second Civil War nears, the body politic should be embarrassed that they’ve left it to a Danish fascist to hold a mirror up to the ruling junta’s indiscretions.”

We seem to be hurdling towards a ethnic-based based civil war that the current regime is unwilling or unable to discuss. We have a 40 year old one-sided race war about to hit a tipping point. Yet the Crumbling Empire sallies forth for another conflict.

You tell me.

  1. Good post. The situation indeed is heating up. I don’t see how the US can avoid civil war.
