Afghanistan has rightly been called the “graveyard of empires.” Neither the British Empire at its peak nor the Soviet Empire in its decline had any success there. And didn’t Alexander the Great have his difficulties there?
History points to only one of way of succeeding there. Whenever a rebel kingdom, gang of bandits, marauding tribe or even a strange cult in one instance raised havoc outside the borders, raids inside to take them out were successful.
That’s right. You can win in Afghanistan if you quickly go in, take out the offender and then, just as quickly, get the hell out.
The USA did that by ousting the Taliban and pushing Al Qaeda out of the country. The job is done. Get out!
How long ago did my muse Joan Jett entertain the troops there?
