Thomas W. Chittum in his now famous 1996 book, CIVIL WAR TWO, THE COMING BREAKUP OF AMERICA, posed this as a real possibility. Chittum had just come back from fighting on the Croat side in the civil wars that followed the break-up of Tito’s Yugoslavia. (I admire my fellow Vietnam veteran Chittum but I supported the Serbs.) He was heavily influenced by what he saw. Some of his transposition to the American situation is a bit awkward. But I buy his overall thesis. He now reportedly thinks it could happen within 4 years. At difference times there have been those waiting to take advantage: Wilmot Robertson’s Ethno Staters, Southern National Party, Republic of Texas, Republic of New Afrika, and the Proponents of Aztlan, an independent Chicano Republic in the SouthWest. But Chittum warns that a new civil war could be so devastating, only 10% of the pre-war population might survive. Think about it. The Mexican Revolutionary War period from 1910 into the 1920s killed at least 10% of the Mexican population. That means up to 90% survived. Yet it was devastating to Mexico. Think again to a situation where only 10% survive in some fashion. There would be nothing left for ANYONE to build on.
